Rapid Covid-19 testing is now available at Family Urgent Care.’
Symptoms of Covid-19 include chest pain, shortness of breath, cough, and fever. If you are concerned you have been exposed to Covid-19, call our office at (219) 440-7351 for more information. Family Urgent Care offers Rapid PCR (Abbott ID Now), rapid antigen, regular PCR (Lab send out) and antibody testing. Please make an appointment with our office to see which test is right for you.
Family Urgent Care offers free Covid-19 PCR testing for uninsured patients at the Chicago location only. The COVID-19 test has a fee without insurance at the Schererville location. Most insurance should cover the test at 100%. Contact your insurance company to clarify if the COVID test and/or antibody test is covered.
You must quarantine while you are pending results, whether you have symptoms or not.
Test results can take up to three (3) days. Most results are coming back in 24-48 hours these days. The provider will conduct a tele-visit with results.
If you test positive, you must stay home for ten to fourteen (10-14) days from either: Test date, date of first symptom, or date of exposure. You must remain on quarantine until you are symptom free for 72hrs
If you experience symptoms you should stay hydrated, rest, and use Tylenol for temperatures above 100.5ºF, treat dry cough, runny/stuffy nose with over the counter medication. You can follow up with us if you have questions or if symptoms get worse. If you experience shortness of breath, go to the nearest emergency room.
Please keep in mind that some people who have tested positive can be asymptomatic (show no symptoms).
Letters of COVID-19 status can be made available for pickup or fax only.
COVID-19 testing is done outside in your car park near the “RESERVED FOR COVID TESTING” banner, call 219-440-7351 and let us know you are outside for your appointment. If testing is done inside, we will direct you on where to go.
If you are testing in a family/group, please understand that we may not get all the results back at the same time. PCR Specimens are sent to an offsite lab for processing.
